A Little About Me

Hello, I’m Andrew Paul Long, founder of APL Counselling Services
Thank you for taking the time to visit my website.
Choosing to begin counselling can feel like one of the hardest decisions you’ll ever make. I understand that because I’ve been there myself. My own experience of counselling showed me just how difficult it can be to take that first step and place your trust in someone you’ve never met. It also showed me how powerful the right therapeutic relationship can be.
Counselling helped me gain a greater understanding of myself, work through difficult experiences and make positive changes in my own life. Experiencing those benefits inspired me to become a counsellor so I could offer others the same safe, supportive and non-judgemental space that helped me.
As an integrative counsellor, I recognise that every person is unique. We all have different experiences, challenges and ways of coping, so I don’t believe therapy should follow a one-size-fits-all approach. Instead, I tailor our work together to your individual needs, helping you explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences at a pace that feels right for you.
Building a trusting therapeutic relationship is at the heart of everything I do. My aim is to provide a calm, confidential environment where you feel genuinely heard, understood and accepted, without fear of judgement.
I am a qualified integrative counsellor and work with adults and young people aged 16 and over. My practice is guided by the BACP Ethical Framework and supported through regular clinical supervision and ongoing professional development to ensure I provide safe, ethical and effective counselling.
If you’re considering counselling but aren’t sure where to start, I offer a free 15-minute telephone consultation. It’s an opportunity for us to talk about what has brought you here, answer any questions you may have and decide whether we’re the right fit to work together.
I look forward to meeting you and supporting you on your journey.
