My Approach

Therapy That Fits You

No two people are the same, so I don’t believe counselling should be either.

As an integrative counsellor, I draw on a range of therapeutic approaches to ensure that our work together is tailored to your individual needs, experiences and goals. Rather than following one fixed model, I adapt my approach to suit you and the challenges you’re facing.

My aim is to create a safe, supportive and collaborative space where you feel comfortable exploring whatever has brought you to counselling.

Understanding Your Story

Many of the difficulties we experience in adulthood have developed over time. Anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties or addiction are often connected to earlier experiences, relationships or ways we’ve learned to cope.

Together we’ll gently explore not only what’s happening in your life now, but also how your past may be influencing your present. Understanding these patterns can help create meaningful and lasting change.

Working Together

Counselling isn’t something that’s done to you. It’s something we do together.

Having experienced counselling myself, I understand how daunting it can feel to walk into that first session or tell someone things you’ve never shared before. I also know how life-changing it can be to feel genuinely heard, understood and accepted without judgement.

That experience continues to shape the way I work today. My aim is to build a trusting therapeutic relationship where you feel safe enough to explore your thoughts, emotions and experiences at a pace that feels right for you. There is never any pressure to talk about something before you’re ready.

The Approaches I May Draw Upon

Because I work integratively, I may use elements from different therapeutic approaches where appropriate, including:

  • Person-centred therapy
  • Psychodynamic therapy
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
  • Inner child work
  • Attachment-informed practice
  • Psychoeducation where it supports understanding and growth

Every intervention has a purpose and will always be discussed with you. My focus is on finding the approach that best supports your individual needs rather than expecting you to fit into one particular model.

Between Sessions

Healing doesn’t only happen during the 50 minutes we spend together.

Where appropriate, I may suggest reflections or practical exercises between sessions to help you build on the work we’re doing together. These are always optional and tailored to your goals, giving you the opportunity to continue your progress in everyday life.

A Safe and Confidential Space

Trust is at the heart of effective counselling.

My role isn’t to judge, criticise or tell you how to live your life. Instead, I’ll offer a calm, confidential and compassionate space where you can speak openly, gain greater self-awareness and begin making the changes that feel right for you.

Everything you share is treated with respect and confidentiality within the limits of professional and legal responsibilities, which we’ll discuss during our first session.

My Hope for You

My hope is that through our work together you’ll leave counselling with:

  • A deeper understanding of yourself
  • Greater confidence in your own abilities
  • Healthier ways of coping with life’s challenges
  • Stronger relationships
  • More self-compassion
  • The confidence to move forward with greater clarity and purpose

Therapy isn’t about becoming someone different. It’s about understanding yourself more fully, recognising your strengths and creating lasting, meaningful change.

Let’s Talk

If you’re considering counselling and would like to know whether we’re the right fit, I offer a free 15-minute telephone consultation.

This gives you the opportunity to ask questions, discuss what has brought you to counselling and decide whether you’d like to begin working together.
