Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need counselling?

Many people wonder whether their problems are “serious enough” for counselling. The truth is, you don’t need to be in crisis to benefit from therapy.

If something is affecting your wellbeing, relationships, work or everyday life, counselling can provide a safe space to explore what’s happening and find a way forward.

What happens during the first session?

The first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other.

We’ll talk about what has brought you to counselling, what you’d like to achieve and any questions or concerns you may have. We’ll also discuss confidentiality, how I work and what you can expect from therapy.

There is no pressure to share everything straight away. We’ll move at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

How long is each session?

Each counselling session lasts 50 minutes.

How much does counselling cost?

Sessions are £60 per 50-minute session.

Payment is required before your appointment unless we’ve agreed otherwise.

How often will we meet?

Most clients choose to attend weekly as this provides consistency and allows the therapeutic relationship to develop.

However, we’ll discuss what works best for you and review this regularly.

How many sessions will I need?

There is no fixed number of sessions.

Some people benefit from short-term counselling, while others prefer longer-term therapy. We’ll review your progress together and you can end counselling whenever you feel ready.

Is everything confidential?

Yes.

Everything discussed during counselling is treated as confidential.

There are a small number of legal and ethical exceptions where confidentiality may need to be broken, such as if there is a serious risk of harm to yourself or someone else, concerns about the safety of a child or vulnerable adult or if required by law. If this ever became necessary, I would aim to discuss it with you wherever possible.

Do you work with young people?

Yes.

I work with young people aged 16 and over, as well as adults.

Can I have counselling online?

Yes.

I offer counselling online using a secure platform, making therapy accessible wherever you are.

Where do sessions take place?

I currently offer counselling online and from my practice in Stockport. Full details will be provided when your appointment is confirmed.

What if I need to cancel?

If you need to cancel or rearrange your appointment, I ask for at least 24 hours’ notice.

Appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice, or missed without notice, will normally be charged at the full session fee.

How do I book an appointment?

The easiest way to get started is by arranging a free 15-minute telephone consultation.

This gives us the opportunity to discuss what has brought you to counselling, answer any questions you may have and decide whether we’re the right fit to work together.

You can get in touch by telephone, email or by completing the contact form on this website.

Still Have a Question?

If your question hasn’t been answered here, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. I’ll be happy to answer any questions you may have before you decide whether counselling is right for you.
